Calligraphy by Leonardo

First Post!

Hello, thank you for visiting WritingAtNight.com. I'm still working on this website, but please stay tuned for more artwork and posts.

For now, here's some art!

Calligraphy of the word "minimum," on white paper with blue ink that sheens red written in Textura Quadrata script.

This is the word "minimum" written in Textura Quadrata script with the
intentional use of only quadrants (diamonds) instead of lozenges in
order to create a picket fence/parallelogram illusion.

This is
one of my most popular commissions and one of my favorite words to
write. This version is written with Birmingham Pen Company's Ultramarine
Ink which has a beautiful red/pink sheen and is written on Strathmore
400 Mixed Media paper.

The art in the thumbnail says, Leonardo written in a style based on a historical exemplar by Georg Bocskay from the Mira Calligraphia Monumenta. I have been calling this, "Textura Duplici Qudrata," but if there is a more accurate historical name, please drop me a comment! You can view the original exemplar at the Getty Museum website, link below!

Mira calligraphiae monumenta

Dog-Tooth Violet and Butterflies
Ms. 20 (86.MV.527), fol. 125
1561–1562

Thanks for visiting and I can't wait to share more with you soon.
